Throwback Thursday | Christmas Party

Throwback Thursdays are celebrated on Go Crafty with a scrapbook page made by Maddie back in junior high or high school. There is a large chance that they will all be very embarrassing (in both layout and content).

How important is readability when it come to page titles? Oh, not very important? Well, that’s good because you can barely read it here!

Luckily, the WordArt software I had (and loved) back in High school added some Christmas trees behind the letters. That’s got to be good, right? And that thin cheap, ink-jet paper its printed on? Also good.

I will say one thing, though. I really love the paper from the first page in the spread. It’s nice to see a holiday paper without the traditional fire-engine-red and kelly-green colors. These are much better.

And, I’m giving myself some points for the second page’s colors matching the first. That i not something I did back in the day (although it’s really too bad I didn’t). Again, no journaling or dates. Still wish I could change that.

Throwback Thursday | Bowling

Let’s all ignore for a moment, the fact that these two pages don’t remotely match on have the same papers even thought they go together. Oh, also ignore the fact that I felt the need to include a nice 4×6″ photo of the side of my face. I’m so classy. This is another one from High School and judging by the photos & what I’m wearing, I’m going to say that it’s probably sophomore year.

I think this title was made in some WordArt program before I printed it out on thin inkjet paper, and that second page is definitely on Valentine’s day paper. At least I like the paper :-D.

I’ve cut all the images up in weird shapes on the second page. I’m not sure why, but I must’ve thought that was pretty cool because it looks like I’ve done it a lot when I flip through my old books. Memory keeping works real well when you can’t see all the photo (haha).

And again, no dates or journaling. If only I could go back in time 😉

Throwback Thursday | The Gang

How do you know when a scrapbook page is from high school? The lack of journaling. Ha. I mean, that’s on way to tell, espeically considering nothing has dates on it either.

Ah, the good ol’ days.

I will admit the ‘the gang’ die cut is really rather cute. Two points for that one.

And the frames are pretty cute too.Back in high school, my mom would always buy me the Scrapbook-A-Day calendar, and each page was a scrapbook frame/image/something to be used on your scrapbook pages. Typically, the whole week would match a theme or color. It was actually pretty cool, but because totally useless to me as a calendar because I couldn’t wait until certain days for certain pieces. I started using them when ever I wanted, but as you can imagine, with so many days missing from my calendar, it wasn’t a very good calendar anymore.

Still, I loved it and my mom got them for me for like three or four years.

You may be wondering why everything is glued on to white paper, when I love colored paper so much? Isn’t the answer obvious. Everything is glued to the back of another scrapbook page. What was I thinking back then ;-)?

 

Throwback Thursday | Last Day of School

Wow, so apparently mangling up some sticker paper with scissors and cutting out some very small wonky letters passes for a page title, or at least I thought it did.

These pages are from my last day of junior high, the last day of 8th grade specifically. I know, right? What 12 year old girl scrapbooks? What can I say, I guess I couldn’t help myself.

So a Ziggy sticker, and 8.5×11″ paper that looks like a locker… That’s cool right? And shiny stickers of school supplies; who knew that was even a thing. Why on earth did I use paper that had cursive letters and dotted lines on it. I mean, c’mon, this wasn’t elementary school, I knew how to do cursive.

But apparently I still didn’t know how to journal ;-).

Clearly my photography skills were pretty awesome here; I mean, one photo actually has a big piece of my finger in it, and two others are completely discolored (and yet, I’ve still included them.)

 

Throwback Thursday | Backstreet Boys Concert

I know what you’re thinking; you don’t have to say it. But, seriously, I think I’ve been to four Backstreet Boys concerts in my lifetime. That’s what happens when you grow up in the 90s, I guess.

When I was younger, one of my friends got four Backstreet Boys tickets as her eight grade graduation gift, so I was one of those lucky enough to get to go along. That dates these pages to around 2001, which again, I would know if I had actually understood journaling at this point (although there is a ticket stub on the second page, so at least I can confirm the date.)

Was it a good idea to use a small wall size poster of the band as my paper? I have no idea, but I think that I wanted people to believe that the autographs printed on the poster were real.

And, lets not even talk about the fact that I thought it was a good idea to add word bubbles above my head that said things like, “Nick = Soul Mate” and “Nick ❤ me.”

Let’s just all be collectively happy that I am no longer a 13 year old girl.

No matting of photos here, and for goodness sake, the background paper/colors of the two pages do not even look related.

Oh well, I give myself points because I worked on these pages at a scrapbook store near my house, hence how I was able to die cut the title letters (out of what looks like tissue paper? Really, younger self? Really?). Oh the days before owning a Cricut. (More like the days before Cricut existed. Oy, now I feel old).

I feel like, having posted these pages, that I need to confess that I did go see backstreet boys when I was in college too, and that was like 2009. Whatever, I have no shame ;-).

Throwback Thursday | Spaghetti Dinner

Okay wow, so this is from eight grade. I realize that there was no reason for me to tell you that, I’m sure the decorative Lisa Frank tape around all sides of the page totally gave it away.

Yeah, it doesn’t get a whole lot worse than this: said Lisa Frank tape, a piece of origami paper randomly placed in the middle of the page, and a title made with my label maker.

(Again, I was a weird kid. What kind of junior high schooler asks for a label maker for Christmas? Well, blame my grandma; she bought it for me!) But seriously, get a look at this title.

Let’s be honest, I’m just impressed that I spelled Spaghetti correctly.

The top photo is so dark that you can barely even see what’s going on.

Oh well, that girl power sticker (that doesn’t remotely match) on the bottom clearly makes up for this lackluster page! Nothing like an arbitrarily placed sticker to pull this sucker together ;-).

Throwback Thursday | Fourth of July 2001

I’m assuming this is from 2001. Without, y’know, any journaling or labeling or anything it’s hard to tell, but there is a date in the bottom corner of the photo (remember when that was a thing?)…

Also, I’m pretty sure I haven’t felt the need to wear anything that says “hottie” on it since 8th grade. That makes it pretty easy to date it ;-).

Soooo yeah. No matting, no journaling, no rounded corners (?!); just three photos stuck on a page with what I’m assuming is crappy vintage rub-on letters because they’re all cracked now if you get real close. Also, ’cause I was all fancy back in the day, I outlined the photo with a black marker. Not bad. (Take that, Martha.)

Although, now that I’ve given it some thought, I could totally rock that visor around today, I think. Too bad I got rid of it a long time ago. Sad panda.

Throwback Thursday | Mang’s 16th Birthday

So I’ve been scrapbooking since junior high, which was quite a long time ago. I don’t know how many eight graders make a scrapbook, but I have enough embarrassing photos of my eighth grade ‘boyfriend’ and I to fill a whole scrap book. Really. And I did.

I scrapbooked through high school, and the made a handful of mini books and vacation themed books throughout college. Naturally, my college and beyond books are quite a bit more ‘advanced’ than the books from my younger days.

My ‘techniques’ or lack there of in the past weren’t exactly hip, but it’s pretty funny. Here is a page that I did ten years ago (oy, that makes me feel old) for my BFF, Mang’s, sixteenth birthday. Luckily, she’s still my best friend ;-).

The yellow paper is embossed; that gives me some points, right? And those tacky yellow shiny stars? I’m pretty sure they were left over decorations from the Homecoming dance. Seeing as this was my pre-Cricut day, the title was actually typed with Microsoft Word out and printed on ink jet paper. I mean, it doesn’t even look good.

Let’s not even talk about how much I mangled those photos with scissors.

Oh well? I’ve got them memories, right? 😉
